Yellowstone July 4, 2007

Stupendous, breathtaking , beautiful – yes – all of those things – and when you do get there you will most probably end of adding awe inspiring, though provoking – and smile inducing !!

Yup – somewhere between the search for the right lens and the handkerchief to avoid the sulphur – the mind suddenly stops and begins to make sense of what one is seeing. This park , if one may call it so – is composed of millions of acres . It is a giant volcanic caldera – or a collection of them. It is alive – the mud boils , the geysers are faithful and almost everything is constantly evolving. Yup – just like Patagonia – the earth is alive here too and it tells you so!! And as with all such places mother nature seems to have sprinkled her colors liberally !! Definitely a “go back and camp” location that we will visit again!

We had the absolutely rare pleasure of seeing all the animals the park is home to – grizzlies, wolves , bison, elk  – etc etc – they all seemed to have decided to be kind enough to put on an appearance. Gosh – we even saw a bald eagle !

Yellowstone, like every reserve or protected zone, is a humbling experience . Its the kind of place to visit with the ones you love . As you watch the sun set over Hayden Valley , or drive through Lamar, or smile at Old Faithful , or focus the lens on Morning Glory , or hope that the bison will coming straight at you will swerve , or get wrinkles from staring through the viewer at that oh so elusive wolf – you will find yourself marvelling at the world – and as you realize how fortunate you are – the hugs that will follow will make for a trip to remember !!

We had Mom & Dad with us – and we cant hold the smiles as we remember the trip :) !

Las Vegas January 6, 2007

Las Vegas … Sin City ?!! What happens here stays here …. yeahhh its all been said and written so we will avoid repeating it . Vegas continues to rock … Bugsy would definitely be proud and if the Corleone family really managed to muscle in, then , well – that was obviously Michael’s best idea ever ! Now if only someone could devise a way to do something about the smokers !!

We started our trip rushing from the  house warming at Frank & Carol’s . Somehow our best trips have always had that one common characteristic , the great rush!  Zumanity , which was to be the “risque” part of the trip turned out to be -ummm – lets just say – not as elegant as we had been led to believe. The shopping , as Rupa confirms , was a cut about the rest – as was the food!!  We particularly liked the Asian fusion restaurant at the MGM Grand – lots of veggie options ! And oh yeah – did we mention the best haircuts of the year for both !!

We liked the little cobbled streets of Paris and Rupa even  managed to stage a pretty decent vertigo act during the ride up the Eifel Tower!! And oh –  the crepes were decent!

And since I finally  managed to win something  – Vegas stays on the list of desirable weekend diversions !

Road trip: route 66 May 22, 2006

So we’d finally decided where we to stay in Calif , we’d decided when Rupa was to vacate the apartment in Chicago , the twice a year traditional conversation with Atlas Van Lines , our movers, had been concluded .. we were all set – other than of course , the fact that one absolutely had to decide on how to get to California. Planes are passe’ right :) ….. and along came Lightning Mcqueen to the rescue. After all what better way than to try and discover Radiator Springs or maybe Carburettor Gulch….. the fact that the Rockies lay along the way as did Bryce, Zion etc… the decision was made.

The oh so flat lands of Nebraska – the Bridges of Madison County ( yup they’re on the way ) – the glorious Rockies, the colorful canyons of Bryce, the shock the living daylights out of you Vegas, the GPS defying roads of Los Angeles, the Santa Barabara moon – and finally home – fun trip. Its amazing how much one can shop along the way – I mean , what were we to do if  Bombay Company was going out of business all over the Midwest  … and the rear seat was free wasnt it :) !!

buenos aires….hhhhmmmmm December 2, 2005

Buenos Aires airport 0700 hrs – whats the first thing that hits you !! No no – not a baggage cart fer crissakes ! – a big huge hoarding of this gorgeous semi ( ummm … bordering on completely ) naked woman in really lacy pink lingerie… delicious … thank god Rupa was sleeping LOL!!

And that is the perfect word to describe Buenos Aires – Delicious !! If ever there was a city that takes – sensual, classic & nouveau as its basic ingredients mixes them all together, sets them to the wild , happy & animal rhythm of a tango and sends them lazily straight into your bloodstream – well that’s Buenos Aires for you! Make sure you see it for yourself!

the honeymoon…in patagonia December 2, 2005

Men are free in Patagonia – methinks so are women :) The earth is alive – and in case youve forgotten – Patagonia will remind you . It will remind you that glaciers have stomachs that rumble, roads always lead somwhere – eventually, pumas like sheep, sheep get sheared, horses are wild , gauchos exist, the wind carries messages , trees grow where it rains – mostly !!

And when Patagonia hugs you with its hues – in that vast silence the soul sings.

Llamas, Machhu Pichhu, Valley of the Gods, Macchu Pichhu ,Hiram Bingham and the 126 disappeared mummies, Macchu Pichhu, Miraflores, Macchu Pichhu, Quenoa, Macchu Pichhu, Amitabh Bachan , Macchu Pichhu………….. as you can tell we were overwhelmed !!It was on day one of the trip as we landed in Lima – and grinned like idiots at each other knowing that we were in oh so South America and then grinned again realizing that we were married – that we realized that this would be a trip of stories.

Isn’t that what adventures are supposed to be ….
